Contactless Feature

1. Are the SP30 mono-cable and SP20 V4 a Contactless card reader device?

  • Yes, the SP30 and SP20 were contactless card reader device.
  • Contactless Reader logo, located on the front of the device, clearly identifies the SP20’s contactless reader capability.
  • Turn the device over and view the underside of the device to verify the model number.
  • SP20 V4, the new contactless reader model name and version number, is imprinted on the back of the SP20.
  • SP30 Monocable requires you to tap the card on the screen of the device to process a contactless transaction.

Integration

2. Are the SP30 monocable and SP20 integrated and semi-integrated?

  • Both the SP30 monocable and  SP20 is an integrated device (it is not semi-integrated), which means the device is not a stand-alone device.

  • Use the SP30 or SP20 in combination with a stand-alone device, such as the S80 or A80.

  • The SP30 monocable and SP20 is a peripheral that captures the PIN for a transaction.

  • Version 4 of the SP20, which is the newer model, has a contactless module.

  • Merchants can use Version 4 of the SP20 to read Apple Pay, Google Wallet, NFC enabled credit cards, etc.

Encryption

3. Does the SP20 need encryption?

  •  Yes, the SP20 must be encrypted to secure receipt of the customer’s PIN and Contactless Card information.

Pax Store Configuration

4. Where do you build a file for the SP20?

  • The SP20 does not/cannot have a file built in a Terminal Management System (TMS) such as BroadPOS TMS.
  • The Merchant, ISO, or ISV must build the file for the S80 in BroadPOS TMS and enable the applicable parameters for the contactless reader function on the SP20.

5. How do I enable the Contactless Reader option?

See Question 6.

6. What are the parameter settings for the Stand alone terminal?

Select the applicable peripherals features :

      1. Access Pax Store

 2. Re-configure the existing application

                    -or-

Select an applicable S80 or A80 application and set the parameters during the file build process
  1. Select Misc tab > select Peripheral Features section
  2. PIN Pad Type field: select External
  3. Contactless Module field: select Auto

                  Note

  • To use Apple Pay or Google Wallet, set the Contactless Module field to Auto.

  • Selecting the Auto option allows the Pinpad to function as an external contactless card reader.

  • If the user switches the PIN Pad Type parameter to Internal, the Standalone device performs transactions and the user must swipe, insert, tap or manually enter the card number on the S80 or A80.

  • The Pinpad will not respond when the user presses keys on the PIN Pad.

Reminder: If building a file, use the different tabs on the application and configure all other applicable parameters.

            3. Click Next then Activate to make the file ready.

Note: After the updated application downloads to the Stand alone device, the merchant does not need to enable the Contactless feature locally on the terminal.

7. On which application is the Contactless feature available?
  • The contactless reader feature is available on all of the latest applications for A80 or S80.
  • View the parameters (specifically, the Misc tab > Peripherals Features section) of the application on Pax Store to determine if the feature is available on the desired application.
  • If the application does not have this option then it means that they will need to update their application version.
